I can't install from an OS 9 disk other than the one that comes with the machine because it gives an error when I try to run the installer. Installing OS 9.2.2 from the install disk for the computer gives me a version of the system that is obviously only classic-mode compatible-no networking, no TCP/IP, no audio ability whatsoever (obviously, it would be relying on OS X to do all that). So I'll just install OS 9 and away we'll go. My daughter wants to play Baldur's Gate and some Mia Mouse games that only run in OS 9. Mac OS 9 was fully functional-internet connectivity through Mozilla some control over sound (although it was a bit buggy) full networking and you could run anything, like graphics intensive games that wouldn't run worth crap in the classic mode of OS X.Īt any rate, so I get a decent replacement hard drive, install 10.5.8 on it, replace the PRAM battery, and it's working fine. Previous to this, I had my G4 tower able to dual-boot into Mac OS X or Mac OS 9.2.2. Also-in a cosmic instance of murphy's law-my external G-drive backup goes tits up at the exact same time!!! Major crap.
A few months ago, my G4 Quicksilver with mirrored drive doors goes belly up-bad hard drive.
